A first time for everything!
Today was the first time that I had ever used a wet saw! We rented one in order to put up the tile for our backsplash. What a great tool! It really made the job of cutting around outlets and other obstacles very easy as was well worth the $42 investment. Needleaa to say we completed the installation part of the job now we have to wait for the mastic to dry and then apply the grout. This we look to do on Wednesday. We've chosen an epoxy grout because it is impervious to anything but it's a little tricky to put on so we'll see how it goes.
With my 2 year post transplant milestone date coming up in less than two weeks, I decided to look at some statistics to see how long people survive these things. One web site had data that showed that, for us older folks with the mini-transplant process, the survival rate is about 25%. Boy, have I been fortunate in that regard. In the years to come, it shows that the survival rate slowly declines after that. In truth, the next major milestone will be the 5 year point which is certainly somewhere off in the distance.
In any case, I have nothing to complain about as I am going on to two and a half years since I was diagnosed. All of this time has been a gift that I would have had without the support of so many people and the ultimate gift from my anonymous donor.
Just remember,
when you have your health - you have everything...

An early spring in the works!
If we can trust those pesky groundhogs that is. If what we have for snow on the ground melts quickly, it will make Noah's flood look like a puddle. After the snow for the past two days, our patio furniture is now completely covered by snow and the piles in the front yard are now up to the roof! But the good news that there is more on the way on Saturday. However, it's too soon for them to accurately forecast how much other than to say that there will be a few inches at least.
We hunkered down and I continued to work toward getting ready to install our tile backsplash on Saturday. The next two days will see some more tasks getting done in preparation for Saturday as well.
With my doctor's appointment postponed until nex tWednesday we can only hope that more snow does not interfere with it. However, Monday is scheduled for a snow disturbance as well with Wednesday being a little too far in the distance to provide any reasonable forecast.
Otherwise, I continue to pump stuff into my eyes as recommended by the doctors. The good news is that they don't get any worse and maybe thay are marginally better. I foresee a long process here before the desirable outcome emerges. For me the desirable outcome is simply to have my cornea heal properly in order to eliminate the double vision in the right eye. The likelihood of ever producing tears and doing away with the eye drops is pretty slim a this point.
Lastly, I'm so glad that we live in a condo. With all of this snow, I haven't had to clear one flake..
Now, let's hope that the groundhogs are right...

You can't dodge them all!
Starting tomorrow and continuing into late Wednesday, from one to two feet of snow is expected to hit us! Where are we going to put it? In any case, I've rescheduled wednesday's doctor's appointment until the following Wednesday. If things continue as they seem have over the past few weeks, it should snow again next Wednesday as well.
So, what does one do under such circumstances? Well, I continue to work on my kitchen overhaul. Today, I completed the repainting of the room from yellow to green to better show off the new cabinet doors and end panels. Now I'll work on preparing for the new backsplash with and eye toward being ready for a Saturday installaton. I have to rent a wet saw to handle the tile cutting. I don't expect any more tile projects after this - so buying one doesn't make a lot of sense.
Dana=Farber will opened its new Yawkey Cancer Center today so it will be interesting to see how the new facilities compare with the old. For starters, it's now one floor for hematology and a second floor to see the doctor - it used to be in one confined area.
I have a few errands to run before the storm hits tomorrow(late morning) and then, once again, it'll be time to hunker down.
That's one thing that this winter has done is to make us hunker down experts.
One consolation in all of this is that January has finally come to an end.
As I said before, I have always hated January. It's the dead of winter with nothing on the horizon. With the coming of February, we can start to turn our eyes toward spring even if the snow is still falling. Baseball spring training starts in February - what better harbinger of good weather is there?
I can hardly wait...
