Someone to be proud of!

That's my grandson! He got 3 awards at his eighth grade graduation last night. He was one of the top 50 in his class(they don't give you a number), he was one of the top 25 in science(again they don't tell you a number), and he was the winner of the English writing prize. For the last award, his teacher said that she had never seen anyone with as extensive a vocabulary as he has. He loves to read and it shows.

To top it all off, he made highest honors for his final report card of the year.

Those are the good things in life and it makes you wonder what more lies in wait and it makes you want to be around to see it. I would hate to think that if my situation hadn't resolved itself in such a positive way that his achievements would be offset by the fact that I would not have been there to see them.

It's great to see the grandchildren start to come into their own.

Even though we don't get any older, they grow up right before our very eyes...

I write this with newly cleaned teeth!

Yup! Yesterday I had my teeth cleaned and also found that I have no new cavities so it appears that we seem to have oral graft vs host disease under control for the time being. Boy am I hedging my bets here! But the disease seems to ebb and flow so you can never be sure what tomorrow may bring.

I'm not trying to panic anyone(least of all me) I do feel fine.

The major event of the day was the arrival of my mother-in-law who will stay with us until Monday. She's here to attend my grandson's eighth grade graduation party on Saturday along with a birthday party for one of my grandaughters on the same day and then to be here on Sunday for Father's Day.

So, today was simply an R&R day, watching some TV, reading, etc. Tomorrow, I'm sure, will be more of the same. The change of pace is good for her and she's having a good time. That's what's most important.

Too bad the Celtics couldn't hold on...

A busy but easy 2 days!

Yesterday, I was asked to become a member of the Zimmerman House docent steering committee. At least 2 of the 3 others who were asked have agreed to serve as well. The only down side is that the meetings are on weekends. During the afternoon, I played cards and in the evening I went to the once a month leukemia support group meeting. They had a speaker who focused on deep breathing and other exercises in order to minimize stress. However, the deep breathing part has been a part of my life for the past few years as our choir director has taught us to breath this way in order to sign better. Sing from the diaphragm is the mantra!

Today was a twofer at the Currier as there was a presentation on the various designs that were proposed for the Zimmerman House before the final configuration. An architectural expert had fabricated renderings of the actual house from drawings that showed exactly what the house would have looked like had it been built at the time. AutoCAD has come a long way! You could walk through the house and you could even project the way that the sun would shine through the windows based on the longitude and latitude of the house and its orientation. Rather impressive!

After the presentation, there was a luncheon that we attended at the museum. I have to admit that it was a little female oriented in its content with salad, fruit, little tea sandwiches, scones, etc. Where are the burgers and dogs? But, then again, the ladies outnumber the men about 10 to 1. What a great way to meet women! Of course, my wife was there as well since she is a museum docent.

Tomorrow is teeth cleaning day and then my mother-in-law arrives for the weekend.

Everyday there seems to be something...

An unusual occurrence!

Yes, we got stood up tonight by friends that we have been playing cards with for the past 20 years! We'll have to accept the fact that they "just plain forgot" and went to their daughter's house for pie!

When that's the highlight(?) of your weekend, you know that you are really grasping at straws here. Nothing of any importance happened.

However, tomorrow is a somewhat busy day. I have bridge in the afternoon and then the leukemia support group in the evening. I almost feel guilty going to the meeting because I have done so well and there are others who are not so fortunate who attend also attend. But, I suppose that success stories provide motivation for others to press on and to continue the battle.

Tuesday is a day at the Currier with a presentation and a luncheon to attend and Wednesday is a dentist appointment to get my teeth cleaned. So, a somewhat busy week ahead. Next weekend is my grandson's 8th grade graduation party and Father's Day. To me the graduation is the achievement. He has done so well and will be receiving some sort of award at the ceremony. He makes his parents and grandparents proud.

So much for bragging...
