Back in the papers again!
One of our local newspapers had another article about me in support of the upcoming bone marrow drive next Sunday. As I said before, I'm kind of a small fish in a tiny pond but it's important to get the word out that people should make every effort to get themselves on the bone marrow donor list. Give someone else a chance and give yourself the feeling of a lifetime. I can't imagine what it must feel like to say that you have saved someone else's life!
I know what it feels like to have your life saved by someone else. It's hard to contemplate that without that individual, I would not be here. To actually have a donor and to find one so quickly are really two miracles. It just doesn't work that way in most cases - I'm so blessed.
So what do I do with my new found life? Why I tackle my wife's honey do list of course! I've just about wrapped up the crown molding job in my living room and dining room. Being one joined space, there is almost 120 feet of molding - so it's no small task. I've now got to paint the molding where it's been patched and then, lastly, to paint the walls that adjoin the molding. Monday should just about wrap it up. Then it's time to relax before tackling the garage.
What else have I done? I went to church this morning for a lay reader's course which was interesting. It's nice to see that a number of people want to strive to do better and not just take reading on Sunday morning as a who cares! activity. Reading God's word on Sunday morning is a privilege that should make you want to do your best and not take lightly. Sometimes you get the feeling that there are those whose opinions differ from mine.
Well, that's about it for the past two days. Tomorrow, we sing an anthem that we have never seen before so it will be interesting to see how much we pick up in the 45 minutes that we have before church starts. Our choir director has a lot of faith in us.
I hope it's all justified...

Still breathing well!
What a test of how well I have progressed over the past year and a half. As I said before, I am putting up crown molding in my living room/dining room area. This is on the first floor while all my saws, etc. are downstairs. So I have been cutting molding, going up stairs, seeing if the piece fits, going downstairs, shaving a bit off, going back upstairs, seeing if the piece fits, etc.
I don't know how many trips I have made up and down the stairs - not to mention how many times I have ascended and descended the step stool in order to reach the ceiling. In any case, I have had zero problems with breathing. A year and a half ago, I would have been exhausted. My legs would have felt like lead and I would have had to stop frequently to get myself going again.
Does this mean that I am hoem free? Far from it! But it's a great indication that things are going as well as they should be at this point in time. It's hard to determine where you stand when you are not visiting the doctor very frequently so I have to use whatever indicators that I can find.
My new life continues on. I went to the seventh of my ten training sessions to a docent for the Zimmerman House at the Currier Museum this morning. It seems like only yesterday that we just started the training - now they are looking for us to start booking tours in a month or so. Am I ready? I think so but I'll know a little bit more when I shadow a tour at the end of the month. It's one thing to lead a tour. It's whole other thing to lead a tour that people have actually paid real money to do. You want to make sure that they feel like they have gotten their money's worth when the tour is over.
But, all in all, our lives keep changing and, hopefully, we continue to grow. This is another new experience for me and a chance to step out and do something for others. Hopefully, we all benefit thereby. In truth, it's not what you know , it's what they think you know that matters!
Once again, I have managed to fill out a post when I had no idea what I was going to write when I sat down at the computer. God always provides.
I hope that you found it of interest...

A nice 2 days!
Tonight was dinner at a friend's house after spending the day painting the crown molding that I bought yesterday. Tomorrow I start the installation.
I'm feeling fine but I'm still doing battle with my on-line medicine provider. After once again assuming that I am on medicare because of my age, the matter was supposedly rectified on Friday with a "promise" that my medication would arrive on Monday. Well, today is Tuesday and it still has not arrived. I've got a few days supply left but I really need it by the weekend. This on-line method for getting your medication just doesn't work even though they pride themselves on their "quality of service". I guess that their definition of quality differs from mine.
There has been nothing else to do but enjoy the beautiful weather. Today was a little cool but the next two days are supposed to be in the eighties - finally a real spring.
Having viewed all the work I've done around the house, a friend now wants me to do some work on her house and she's willing to pay me for the effort. Truthfully, I've never done anything like this before. One, I really don't like to take money from friends, two, I'll be concerned that she won't like the quality of the job, three, I tend to take my time with these tasks - stopping whenever I feel like it, and, four, lugging all my tools to her place will be a pain in the butt. Yet, I still feel inclined to do it if only because she needs to have the work done and doesn't know where to go.
It's going to require a great deal of thought...

A minor miracle of sorts!
The Red Sox came from behind to beat the Yankees in their opener. A great game to cap a great day!
After church this morning, we went to my sister-in-law's and celebrated the Easter holiday with family and friends. The weather was beautiful for April 4th - sunny with the temperature in the mid-seventies.
The kids did the Easter egg hunt and had a lot of fun. That's what it's all about. You begin to appreciate days like this when you realize that we are all getting older and that illness can also serve to deplete the number of attendees.
I hope that each of you had a great day as well...
