Fifteen minutes of fame!
Well, maybe it was more like 50 seconds. But in any case the TV interview was broadcast today during the 5:00 news half hour. It can be found at http://www.wmur.com/health/22969326/details.html. There is a written article along with the resultant video from the all the information that was given on the day of the interview. I thought that it was well edited and well done. But, then again, that's what the people are paid for. Look for yourself. I don't necessarily think that I came out looking like Clark Gable(why? I don't know!). But Janne fared a lot better. This will give all of you a chance to see what she looks like.
That's obviously the biggest highlight of the day. But the most important fact to take away is that we need many more people to step up and offer to be bone marrow donors. Let's try to give everyone in need of a transplant the opportunity to have one. Will they all work? Unfortunately, no! But everyone deserves a chance.
I can only hope that the segment compels people to get themselves on the bone marrow donor list. Even if only one person is motivated by it - we will have accomplished something.
It's been a good day...

A good two days!
It started with my dentist appointment yesterday morning whereby I had two filllings fixed and a crown - it took almost 3 hours to complete everything. I got the dentist to give me some special flouride toothpaste which should hopefully slow down the effects of the graft vs host disease and minmize the number of future cavities - we'll see!
Then last night we went out to dinner with our church foyer group for the first time in over a year and a half. What a great time we all had! It's those things that I missed. And to think that the rest of the group didn't get together without us and that they still wanted to get together once my wife and I were back in the fold. Such friends are worth their weight in gold! We are really fortunate in this regard!
Today was another docent class - we're at the halfway point! Time seems to fly so fast. One of my fellow classmates is a Steve Martin fan and has all of his movies. he said last week that I should see his movie "Novocaine". So, this week she brought me the DVD - how thoughtful!
Tonight, of course, was choir practice. Wit Holy Week starting on Sunday, there will be a lot for us to sing with their being 5 services in eight days and another choir rehearsal thrown in for good measure. It's a busy time to say the least. But it's why we do it.
More and more, I get to see the good things in life. I think of a comment made over the weekend about how our lives have changed since we have had the transplant. For me, my life has expanded and I am so grateful for it.
It's great to be alive...

A so-so day!
Don't worry, healthwise I'm feeling fine.
No, the problem revolves around computer issues again so the best solution seems to be to just upgrade and purchase a new computer - which I did. I'm not really happy about it - but it does make running some of my software much easier and I won't have to worry about upgrading my ancient machine.
I did finish the bathroom yesterday. And, if I do say so myself, it looks pretty good. As they say, self praise is better than no praise at all!!!
Tomorrow, it's off to the dentist to get some cavities looked at and to install a crown. All caused by graft vs host disease. What can I say, there's not much that you can do about it - so just take the hit and make the best of it.
I'm still feeling fine and I think that I'll take a little rest from working on projects for a while. Not that there is nothing for me to do. I still have to clean up the mess from my work shop area which I'm not looking forward to.
As an aside, it looks like my TV interview will be this Friday on local Channel 9 as part of the 5:00 news half hour.
There always seems to be something going on giving me something to say.
God does provide...

One of the most spiritually moving talks that I have ever heard!
That's what a friend said tonight about my speech back on February 21st. I was glad that he felt that way about it but a little bit humbled by the fact that he kind of elevated it to the top of his list. I guess that the words that God wished for me to say did resonate with a few people. But the story is not mine and it is a story that could be told by others who were at the conference the past two days and that's what makes it so great. For God is there and there are so many people who can testify to that fact!
We attended a session on spirituality this morning and it closed with the results from an interesting experiment. A double blindsided test was run whereby people prayed for a group of people that they did not know AND the people who were being prayed for did not know that that was taking place. These people were part of an overall group of people suffering from a similar disease. The results were more than statistically significant that the group being prayed for were improved much more than their counterparts. I'm not saying that prayer is the solution to all problems but it can certainly play a part in the process.
I did learn today that my cavities are probably the result of graft vs host disease and, along with fixing them, a flouride treatment regimen should greatly reduce the liklihood of more occurring. I'll speak to my dentist on Wednesday about this.
Overall, the bone marrow transplant survivor conference was a well worth the time commitment. It's not something that you need to do more than once - but you should do it.
The day ended with a party of sorts at a friend's house and we had a great time.
Having so many friends is a great blessing...
