You give all of us cause for hope!

Those moving words were said to me today by a gentleman whose 11 year old son has had aplastic anemia and had a bone marrow transplant last November. Though his son has had a recent setback, he seems to be turning the corner back to recovery. I was somewhat taken aback by those words because I never looked at myself in that light before. But, I guess, not just me, but all of us who have been fortunate enough to survive provide those now going through it with the inspiration that they need to persevere because you can defeat the disease.

This man came to register at the bone marrow drive today which was most certainly a wonderful thing to do. All who came were greatly committed to wanting to give of themselves with the chance that they may be helping another. It was so wonderful for me to see how the true human spirit can manifest iteself in such a meaningful fashion. There were a few who were deeply disappointed because health issues prevented them from being able to get on the list. This in no way diminishes their efforts to give wherever they can. Again, I thank you all.

Yesterday, my wife and I were "trained" to be peer to peer counselors for those either suffering from some sort of blood disorder or who were caregivers to those in that situation. I don't know how effective I can be in this role but, again, I would like to have the opportunity to try to aid someone who is having a problem and needs some reassurance.

Success stories spur people on because it does provide them with the thought that if others can do it - so can they. And a positive attitude greatly helps when you are fighting this battle.

Once again, I feel so blessed to have traveled the journey that I have and even more blessed to think that just by having done so others are moved to step up the level of their battles because they desire the same outcome for themselves.

It was a great day for all...

Bob

Dad-
It was my pleasure to host this again. Its a very rewarding experience to see all that come to give of themselves. There is hope and I am trying to provide as much opportunity to the folks that need it. I look forward to next year's drive and cannot thank all of the volunteers that gave of their time to help out with what I feel is a fantastic cause!
