Very strange!
I couldn't get to this site by the usual www.rljworld.blogspot.com. It says that there are problems with the site. However, there is more than one way to skin a cat, as they say. I did a search in Google for RLJWORLD and was able to get here that way. I hope that the situation is remedied quickly. I'll try again after I complete this entry - which really should not be that long.
Today was another painting day. I completed another wall in the bedroom - now for the window and floor trim.
It truly was a beautiful day weatherwise capped off by going to a friend's house for dinner. It's nice to get out once in a while and they truly take an interest in my health by making sure that I don't sit in the sun, asking questions about my current health status, etc. I suppose that if they read this blog that they wouldn't have to ask the questions but I'm not going to point that out to them.
Otherwise, a typically uneventful day - just the way that I like them...

Early post today and kind of a bittersweet day.
We went to lunch with my ex-boss and his wife which was nice. If you recall, he was laid off last December. Unfortunately, he is relocating to California in order to seek employment and they are leaving on Sunday. So it's goodbye for the short term and, hopefully, we can reconnect sometime in the future. When you have known someone for 17 years, it's a sad moment as you watch them leave to go on to their new venture. That's the bitter part of the day.
The sweet part was the visit from our deacon - the one who has suffered from leukemia. She looks great and has completed her treatment. Next up is a bone marrow biopsy on September 11th. This, as I've said before, is no fun. However, if the results turn out in your favor, it takes all the pain away. Unfortunately, you have to wait several days until the results come back. She is definitely in my prayers. I hope that I am still in yours.
Anyway, today was nothing but pleasant conversation followed by communion. This was only about the 5th time that I've had communion in the past 9+ months. So each one is very meaningful to me.
Weatherwise and healthwise - wonderful summer's day. I really appreciate them now.
To think that I could have missed it all...

We just got home!
As part of my grandson's baseball camp package, he got a free ticket to a New Hampshire Fisher Cats game. We bought some additional tickets and my wife and I and his family went to the game. Not much of a game with the Fisher Cats being no hit into the 9th inning but it was exciting to follow the no hit bid that long. Unfortunately, they took out the starting pitcher in the ninth and the reliever gave up three hits.
Now, you are probably saying to yourself that I should be avoiding crowds and you are right. But, this event was outside and I surrounded myself with family members so as to minimize contact with other people. The doctor is less concerned about being outside with a number of people. Likewise, I limit my exposure to crowds. I certainly do not make a habit of venturing out. This, I am sure, is my one and only ball game. I do not attend church, have infrequently visited restaurants(and only at odd hours), and have never gone into a shopping mall since all of this started. Needless to say, work is out of the question.
Other than that, I continued painting the bedroom - still quite a ways to go because I don't overdo it each day. Do some of it and then stop and relax. However, my energy level remains great - it's the physical aspect of the work that gets to me. Having sat around for so long, I tend to get a little sore from all the work. But, I need to keep pushing if I am to get better.
No change in my condition, I'm feeling fine...

Definite progress!
In order to walk to the ball field where my grandson has his baseball camp, you have to walk up a three tiered set of steps - probably about 30 stairs. No big deal for most of us, but it was a big deal for me back in September and October because I would be gasping for air when I finally arrived at the top. No longer! Both yesterday and today, I walked up the stairs without any problems. This is probably the biggest test that I have had so far and I passsed with flying colors. My treatment appears to be working just fine. Thank God I have not undergone all of this for nothing!
As I mentioned before, today is my grandson's 13th birthday. So... After camp we went miaiture golfing and he went riding on the bumper boats. He had a great time. Then we went to dinner at a restaurant and sat in a secluded spot. Sounds so romantic doesn't it!
We went walking around the neighborhood with our grandson and spoke to several of our neighbors who hadn't seen me in quite a while. General concensus - I'm looking very good. But, then again, they're not doctors. However, I do admit that it's nice to hear people say such things.
Then again, I think that they were all wearing dark tinted sunglasses...

Company!
My grandson is staying with us as he goes to baseball camp today through Thursday. Tomorrow is his birthday as I mentioned on Sunday and he will be a certified teenager at last. Where does the time go?
We went for ice cream tonight and we'll go for miniature golf tomorrow after camp is done.
I did start my bedroom painting job today. It's always good to get something accomplished each day - at least that's what I think!
Healthwise, as usual, I am feeling great! But, as I have said many times, your thoughts and prayers are still needed. I am not out of the woods yet - though it seems to feel like it.
Our deacon who has battled leukemia as well called today. She has completed her chemo regimen with no bone marrow transplant being part of her recovery program. She had a rocky follow on but is doing great now and will be coming on Friday to offer communion. Our joint battle has truly been a bonding experience for us. This is one of the many positives that I have benefitted from during this time.
I have much to be grateful for...

Another design change!
As you can readily see, I changed the header design again. What better way to spend my time(when I'm not painting) than to put me creative juices to work(what little I have) and have a little fun.
It's kind of funny though when I say "one man's walk with leukemia" because I have never really felt that I have had the disease. For others to check this blog to see how I have coped with it, they will see that I have not had much coping to do at all. I take my medication as prescribed and I mostly follow the doctor's orders about staying away from crowds. But I have not had to contend with any debilitating side effects. In fact, I am doing more and more work around the house. I just finished painting a bathroom and I'm now starting on a much overdo bedroom painting project. Maybe that all helps with the recovery process as it continues to give me daily goals to meet.
It probably violates everything that the doctor would recommend for me. But, then again, he did say that my counts have remained amazingly stable. So I'm looking at all of this as being therapeutic in nature and who can deny it when I am doing so well?

A day to celebrate!
Though his actual birthday is Wednesday, my daughter held a birthday party today for my grandson who will be thirteen. These are the things that I would have missed and I know that everyone else would have missed me as well if events had turned out much differently. Maybe I'm being a little presumptuous with the others missing me but kindly cut me a little slack here.
It's great to see what the kids are up do these days - their likes and dislikes and what's important to them. My grandson's love for the outdoors and all the activities therein is unmistakeable - hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, etc. He has to get it from the other side of his family because none of those activities appeal to me in the least!
But most of all, it's great to see the kids being happy! To see that joy just makes my day! To have missed it would have been a downer for everyone.
Thank God we can look past that situation and focus on nothing but the positive...
