Sunday is the 7th day – the day of rest. For me there is basically no change from the other 6 days but you could notice that the normal hospital hustle and bustle seemed to be turned down a notch. My daughter Jen and her husband visited today and, of course, my wife was here as she is everyday. We had a pleasant visit and they brought the sandwich the sandwich that I requested yesterday and it was delicious.

But there is something about Sunday that I now miss tremendously. And that is the opportunity to go to church! I need that time to help center my life, to look back on the prior week, to peek ahead at the week to come, to visit with my friends, to help me better put my life in perspective, and to better connect with God. For me, its absence leaves an emptiness that can be filled in no other way.

I was somewhat tired today as I think I responded to a record number of bathroom calls last night. Hopefully, that will not be the case tonight.

Other than that, the ever necessary numbers continue to look good and we continue on plan.

In closing for today, I want to thank every one who has taken the time to send me a card. The number of cards that I have received is overwhelming and it is a big boost to know that so many of you are thinking of me.

Hi Bob, we understand what you mean about missing church, like you we missed church today also but for a different reason. We could not get organized and get everything and everyone together in time to make church. We had the joy of baby sitting Kirsten and Molly this weekend and we forgot how dofficult it is to get yourself together along with helping a 4 year old get dress, eat breakfast and feed and dress a 8 month old. We lost the battle but had a great weekend with the two girls. It is now Sunday evening and Lorraine and I have been reading your blog and are amazed at how upbeat you sound and so grateful that everything is going so well with your treatment. Our prayers will now center on the cancer being in remission and a bone marrow match is found and the two week treatment begins without a hitch. Besides having the girls this weekend it was also a weekend where I said the heck with work and just paid attention to them and tried to help Lorraine manage the little ones as best we could. We will continue to hold you and Nancy up in prayer. For now God Bless and we look forward to your next entry. Love Lorraine & Paul

As the weekend comes to a close we are gearing up for our regular hectic week of school and yes cheerleading practice still. We have constantly remarked on how upbeat you are and the many "amazements" that are observed by all, visitors and your caregivers. For someone enduring what you are going through, its truly amazing to see you eat all the spicy food, pastrami sandwiches (I use the plural as I am predicting that you will probably have had another one sometime this week)and look as good as you do. I would like to pass along that the Milford Fire Dept has, through the Fire Chief, extended the great arm of support to help the upcoming Bone Marrowthon and also has helped to spread the the message of support to the Fire Service community. So in closing I have to say good night for now its late and the kids have to get to bed. They send their love and had tons of questions as to how you are doing. I of course still say that you are amazing everyone with your capabilities.

Hi Bob,
Sunday was a special service this week, for the baptism of our newest grandchild, born in mid-July. Although the service was rich in tradition, and the prayers of baptism very real, It was not contemplative or rejuvenating for me. There was too much commotion, baby fussing a bit, drawing on the bulletin for the 3 yr old, the 5 and 7 yr olds playing gunfights with each other, and the 7 yr old making bumping and tapping noises while crawling under the pews. All the delightfully normal things that children are doing while grown-ups are trying to be so serious!
I think that's why Jesus welcomed the children and blessed them. Children are so genuine with their emotions. When they are bored, you know it. When they're happy, you know it. We grown-ups make so many things serious.
We had a wonderful day with our family, and the joy of being together is one of the best parts of experiencing the heavenly while on earth. The church community, meeting weekly together, is our affirmation of God's presence and our acknowedgment of his love. I know how much I look forward to that time ever week, especially the hymns and worship. I've sung in the church choir since I was a girl.
I rejoice with you that the medicines and God's healing grace are producing good results within your body, and that you are moving forward with hope and good cheer.
Harry joins me in sending love and prayers. hugs to Nancy.
