The really good news of the day was that yesterday they sliced deeper into my bone marrow sample that they had from last week and redid the test and once again there was absolutely no sign of cancer cells. The bottom line from all this was that I now do not need to have a second bone marrow biopsy done – a relief for me as they are literally a pain in the ass!

So now I am literally in waiting mode until my counts go up so that I can go home. They continually feed me the antibiotics as I said before but that is it!

Well, it was another adventure in dining tonight! I branched out and ordered the “grilled sirloin burger”. On the menu it states that, “Brigham and Women’s hospital Food Service cooks raw meats well done”. I think that what this means is that they start cooking all the hamburgers at 5:00 in the morning and leave them on the grill until someone dares to ask for one. When the hamburger arrived, it was completely devoid of any juices, whatsoever, and hard as a hockey puck. Feeling courageous, I took one bite anyway and told my wife that I couldn’t eat it. I then offered her a bite to prove my point. With some reluctance, she took her bite and immediately commented, “That’s gross!” So each time that I order something new, I get the opportunity to scratch another item off the list of options. Pretty soon we’ll get down to PB&J as the only edible option outside of breakfast.

Unfortunately, during the bone marrow transplant portion of the program, you are not allowed to eat any food from the outside. When you juxtapose that with the fact that you cannot eat the inside food either – its going to make for some pretty rough times! However, I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Hi Bob, glad to hear that a second bone marrow biopsy will not be needed. As for your hamburger I totally agree once over lightly and sill mooing. The plus side is the pounds are melting away and making it more difficult for me to achieve my goal of a 38 inch waist line to be just like Bob. As for your hair following out you can go the Mr Clean route on your own. Lorraine says the plus there is no shaving and wonders if hair is falling out in other places if you get her drift. Good football Sunday, all winners, the Pats, Jets and Giants. Try and make the best of your hospital Thanksgiving, Lorraine and I will continue to hold you and Nancy up in prayer and give thanks for the progress being made to this point and the disease being in complete remission. Love Lorraine & Paul

Hi Dad-
Glad things are going well. Unfortuantely, we have all been exposed to strep. No one here has it yet, but we don't want to take a chance in givign it to you, so we won't be by tonight.

Hope to see you soon!

So glad to hear you won't have to have another bone marrow test and that the first confirmed further that there are no signs of cancerous cells. That is good news. As I read your blog, I wondered why a hospital which is a facility whose main purpose is to make you better always seems to serve inedible food. It really doesn't make sense. Let us know if Steve and I can bring you anything on Friday when we stop in to say hi. I will call Nancy ahead of time to make sure you feel like having company. Make sure Nancy brings you some of the good Thanksgiving food tomorrow. None of that hospital stuff. See you Friday.

Hey Bob! No second biopsy - how awesome is that? !!! Ok you still have to spend Thanksgiving in the hospital but there is reason for much Thankfullness in escaping that pain in the ass proceedure and of course as you counts come up the anticipation of heading home! I'm sure your Nancy and friends will cook up a storm of wonderfull food for you when you can get home. Frankly Hospital food should be outlawed! I'm sure next years Turkey will be all the tastier! Keep getting better!

Hi Bob,
I'm taking a few quiet moments to pray for you and rejoice that the bone marrow thing is showing good results. I am so thankful that your body and this chemo have brought you into remission. And I know God's peace is with you, working in your body too.
The love of a good wife and the joy of a good family are the greatest blessings ever. Enjoy yours to the fullest this thanksgiving.
Our families arrive in a few hours, one son with four children, ages 7 and under, and our other son with a 10 month old puppy. Should be a noisy, happy time.
Harry joins me in my prayers and best wishes for a happy thanksgiving for you and Nancy.

Congrats on the good news about not needing the second biopsy is out!! I know that the food leaves a lot to be desired, but you can look forward to some great food tomorrow, I'm sure. And you will have LOTS to be thankful for as everything seems to be going better than planned.!! Have a happy thanksgiving with the Jen and Mike. We will continue to keep you in our thoughts.
